The British International School Jahi Early Year-School is for International children aged 2.5 – 5 years old:

Strong Foundations

Learning is encouraged through play both inside and outside the classroom. The teachers use a wide variety of teaching styles: whole class, small groups, pairs and individual teaching. They use a wide variety of resources to encourage children to participate and to be interested in their learning. This includes techniques of storytelling, puppets, arts and crafts activities, songs and rhymes, puzzles, sand and water play, construction play, and playing on outdoor equipment. The afternoons follow a play based programme where children can play and explore, create and think critically to become active learners.

The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) from the UK. This covers seven main areas of learning:

  EYFS Guiding Statements

  Safe and Sound

  Our environments are guarded 24 hours a day. Parents will be given an ID card with their photograph on it. If you are not wearing your ID picture card, you will be asked to give your ID in exchange for a pass when coming into the school. Notification will be required if there are any changes to the usual routine when picking up your child. The school will call you if the person collecting your child is not known to us. Please ensure that your mobile telephone number is up to date with our secretaries.

  Health and Safety

  Health and safety plays an important part in ensuring that our EYFS Department provides a safe environment for all. We have a Nurse available to answer any queries you have about your child’s health.

   

  Nutritional information and Mealtimes

  We believe that children should eat a balanced diet. Mealtimes are a time when a child’s social skills can be developed. The children are encouraged to help themselves with their meals and drinks.

  Drinks

  Milk and water are available throughout the day. Please inform us of any allergies or dietary requests. There are no nuts in our meals. The menu is sent to parents every month.

   

  Learning Support

  The Class Teacher observes each child individually and checks that their progress is on track. If they have concerns about a child, they liaise with our Learning Support Department. We would then involve the parents and look at outside agencies, if necessary.

   

  Working with Parents

  Leaving your child for the first time in EYFS can be a stressful time for both parent and child, so we try to make this as easy as possible. At the beginning of the first term, parents will be invited to an Introductory meeting with the class teacher. Information and details about the EYFS programme will be given at this meeting.  In September when the children start school the parents are asked to stay in the classroom until the child is ready to be left on their own.

  Parents Evenings are held in October and April, which gives the parent and Class Teacher the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress, needs, and development.

  Reports are issued twice a year, in December and June, to inform parents about their child’s progress in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum that they are following.

  We have a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA), which regularly organizes events to support both the school and chosen charities. The representatives liaise with existing and new parents. If you have any time to offer they would be very glad of the help.

  EYFS Updates

  For news and updates on Pre School & Primary School activities, a monthly Newsletter is produced which details events that are taking place in the month ahead. The Class Teachers have their own Google Classroom webpage to share what is happening in their classrooms. Class Teachers will also be in contact via email as and when needed.
   

  Uniform

  We have an EYFS uniform. We feel that the uniform gives the children a sense of belonging to the school, it is practical and comfortable, and easy to see when we are out on trips in the city. The uniform is an additional cost.

    

  Bus service

  We have a bus service, which can take the children from home to school. All buses are fitted with seat belts and booster seats can be requested. All buses have a hostess to help your child on and off the bus. All drivers have mobile phones. The bus service is an additional cost.

  EYFS1- Preschool has an intake of children from age 2.5  to 4 years old.

  Reading in EYFS 2 – Reception
   
  Once children are fully settled into their new classroom environment, reading books and a reading diary will start coming home. This means your child is ready to start learning to read. We want to make this an enjoyable experience so your children become enthusiastic and confident readers.

  Early Learning Goals

   

  At the end of EYFS2- Reception the children will be assessed against the 17 Early Learning Goals as part of their EYFS Profile. This progress will be shared with parents in the end of year report, as well as being passed on to the Year 1 teachers to allow a smooth transition to occur between the EYFS and Primary Sectors of the School.
   
  Parents as Partners

   

  We believe that parents are children’s first educators and when parents and teachers work together the results have a positive impact on children’s development and learning. We encourage parents to contribute. Below are some ideas of what you can do at home.
